MiHaven’s 189 Swallow Street SDA Apartments have received yet another award, winning the “Specialised Housing” category at the HIA- Cosentino Cairns Housing and Kitchen and Bathroom Awards, held on Friday night at the Pullman Cairns International Hotel.

MiHaven co-directors James and Sarah Mort celebrate their win at the 2024 HIA Awards in Cairns.

Up against two other finalists, the judges commented, “This Specialist Disability Accommodation development showcases cutting-edge design and construction tailored for accessibility and comfort. The two-storey apartments feature a wireless 4G nurse call system, NDIS-approved elevator, and QFES-approved fire sprinklers, ensuring top-tier safety and support. The exterior stonework, crafted from locally sourced materials, adds a stylish aesthetic while maintaining functionality. Despite challenging conditions like high-water tables and P-class soil, the team implemented innovative solutions, such as mass concrete piers and a non-return valve system, to ensure the building's stability and longevity. This project sets a new benchmark for inclusive, high-quality disability accommodation, blending style with superior support and care facilities”.
